THE WHITE AND WABASH RIVERS IN SOUTHWEST INDIANA AND SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS WILL FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE BY WEDNESDAY. FLOODING ALONG THE LOWEST REACHES OF THE WHITE RIVER HAS PERSISTED SINCE APRIL 9. THE WABASH RIVER AT VINCENNES...MT. CARMEL AND NEW HARMONY HAS BEEN ABOVE FLOOD STAGE SINCE APRIL 22. WEEKEND RAINS OF 2 TO MORE THAN 4 INCHES IN NORTHERN INDIANA CAUSED ANOTHER RISE IN THE WABASH RIVER IN THE LAFAYETTE AREA. LOWLAND FLOODING ALONG THE WABASH RIVER FROM LAFAYETTE TO TERRE HAUTE WILL CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY. LOWLAND FLOODING IN THE HUTSONVILLE ILLINOIS AREA WILL PERSIST THROUGH MAY 23.

FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND WITH LEVELS VERY SLOWLY RECEDING. PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED ACROSS CENTRAL INDIANA THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND WHICH MAY PRODUCE RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER ONE INCH IN SOME AREAS...ESPECIALLY ALONG THE UPPER WABASH. RIVER CABINS BEGIN TO FLOOD. EXTENSIVE LOWLAND FLOODING OCCURS IN UNPROTECTED AREAS.

AT 1144 AM CDT .....UPSTREAM OF MOUNT CARMEL...THE WABASH...EMBARRAS AND WHITE RIVERS CONTINUED TO RECEDE. FLOODING HAD ENDED IN THE LAFAYETTE AREA AND WILL END NORTH OF INTERSTATE 70 BY MONDAY. FLOODING ALONG THE EMBARRAS WILL END BY MAY 12. FLOOD LEVELS WILL CONTINUE TO SLOWLY RECEDE ALONG THE WHITE RIVER THROUGH MAY 15.

AT 536 PM CDT...LAWRENCE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED THAT FLOODING CONTINUED IN AREAS EAST OF STATE ROUTE 1 AND SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 50. THE FLOODING IS THE RESULT OF A LEVEE BREACH THAT OCCURRED ON TUESDAY TO THE CROSS LEVEE NEAR THE WABASH AND EMBARRAS RIVERS 2 MILES SOUTHEAST OF BILLET. EVACUATION NOTIFICATIONS WERE MADE BY LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT IN THE WESTPORT AND ALLISON AREAS. PARTS OF ILLINOIS ROUTE 33 AND OLD BUSINESS U.S. 50 SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 50 INCLUDING MEMORIAL BRIDGE ARE STILL FLOODED AND CLOSED AT THIS TIME. MANY SECONDARY ROADS OVER EXTREME SOUTHEAST LAWRENCE COUNTY ARE COVERED WITH WATER. WITH MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING ON THE WABASH AND EMBARRAS RIVERS EXPECTED TO ONLY FALL OFF SLIGHTLY OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS...THE RISK FOR ADDITIONAL BREACHES ALONG THE LEVEE WILL CONTINUE.

AT 545 PM CDT...A LEVEE BREACH ON THE WABASH RIVER EARLY THIS MORNING IS CAUSING FLASH FLOODING OF IMMEDIATELY SURROUNDING AREAS. EVACUATION NOTIFICATION HAS BEEN MADE IN AFFECTED AREAS BY LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LAWRENCE ALLISON FIRE DEPARTMENT. ILLINOIS 33 AND OLD U.S. 50 ARE CLOSED AT THIS TIME. MANY SECONDARY ROADS ARE OR WILL SOON BE COVERED WITH WATER TODAY.

AT 217 PM CDT A LEVEE BREACHED AT THREE POINTS ON THE WABASH RIVER NEAR THE CROSS LEVEE EARLY THIS MORNING IS CAUSING FLASH FLOODING OF IMMEDIATELY SURROUNDING AREAS. EVACUATION NOTIFICATION HAS BEEN MADE IN AFFECTED AREAS BY LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LAWRENCE ALLISON FIRE DEPARTMENT. ILLINOIS 33 AND OLD U.S. 50 ARE CLOSED AT THIS TIME. MANY SECONDARY ROADS ARE OR WILL SOON BE COVERED WITH WATER TODAY ESPECIALLY FROM HIGHWAY 33 EAST TO THE WABASH RIVER.

AT 931 AM CDT...LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED THAT LEVEES CONTINUED TO BE TOPPED AND/OR BREECHED OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN PART OF THE COUNTY. THE AREAS MOST AFFECTED ARE SOUTH OF ROUTE 50 AND EAST OF ROUTE 1. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR OVER MAINLY RURAL AREAS OF SOUTHEASTERN LAWRENCE COUNTY...INCLUDING THE TOWN OF BILLETT.

AT 750 AM CDT...LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED THE WABASH RIVER LEVEE JUST EAST OF BILLET WAS BREACHED WITH WATER CAUSING FLOODING IN THE TOWN OF BILLET...JUST SOUTHEAST OF LAWRENCEVILLE!
